Updates on the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced some updates regarding parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program. IRCC will begin sending invitations to apply to 23,100 interested potential sponsors. Invitations will be sent over the course of 2 weeks. IRCC will send invitations to randomly selected potential sponsors for the 2021 IRCC intake instead of opening a new interest to sponsor form. This is the same approach taken for the 2020 intake. Anyone who submitted an interest to the sponsorship form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in January 2021 or September 2021 is encouraged to check their email account.

The Canadian Immigration and Refugee Council (IRCC) has announced changes to its sponsorship process for the 2020 and 2021 tax years. Parents and grandparents will have a lower income requirement for sponsorship, and benefits will be included toward the sponsor’s income. This is part of IRCC’s commitment to modernize Canada’s immigration system, and speed up and simplify the application process.
