ESDC has introduced more changes to the TFW Program to tackle the labour shortage issue across Canada and has updated the following Refusal to process rules for the LMIA Applications. This is a positive change to handle the growing labour shortage in various parts of Canada. This will benefit both, the employers and the temporary foreign workers.
- Effective April 30, 2022, the Refusal to Process (RTP) policy that automatically refuses LMIA applications for low-wage occupations in Accommodation and food services sector (North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 72) or Retail trades sector (NAICS codes 44 to 45); and classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes 6541, 6611, 6622, 6711, 6721, 6731, 6732, 6733, 7611 and 8612 in regions with an unemployment rate of 6% or higher will no longer be in effect
- Effective May 1, 2022, the Refusal to Process LMIA applications for certain occupations in Alberta will no longer be in effect.
According to the latest statistical records from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the country welcomed a total of 72,510 immigrants in the first two months of 2022.
Following this rate of immigration, one can predict about435,000 new permanent residents to Canada in 2022. In January 2022, the Government of Canada invited 35,330 new permanent residents, and in February, another 37,180 newcomers have been admitted. When compared to last year, these figures are almost 50% more than the 48,095 new permanent residents that have been invited during the same period in 2021.
